New procedure represents a first for prosthetics

The John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) has developed a Modular Prosthetic Limb which can give an amputee a greater range of motion and comfort following a procedure to connect it. This procedure is a great accomplishment for the field of prosthetics, eliminating one of the largest gaps: the socket – the most critical component of the prosthesis – which attaches to the body. If the prosthesis does not attach correctly, this can cause serious pain and blisters to the patient. The focus for APL is now to fulfill their mission of getting the technology from the lab and giving it to those who need it.
