Algorithm helps prosthetic leg automatically adapt to user

Researchers in the US have developed software that enables powered prosthetic legs to automatically adapt to individual users. Typically, such devices have to be regularly “tuned” by prosthetics experts so that a patient can move normally. However, a special algorithm, developed by a group from North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina, allows this process to happen automatically, potentially reducing costs significantly and improving the functionality of prosthetic devices.
