Automotive Award for Innovation won by driverless pod car

The 2015 Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) innovation award has been given to the Low-carbon Urban Transport Zone Pathfinder project, which aims to bring two-seater automated, driverless pods to the UK. Trials of the project are due to start early next year. The findings from the trials will then be fed into the UK Autodrive programme, which is based on a larger scale. It is hoped that these pods could eventually be used to provide public transport along pedestrian routes.
