UK shows increase in innovation activity

Data from the European Patent Office has shown that more than 5,000 patents were filed in the UK in 2015, an increase of 5.7% from the previous year.

This is the fastest rate of growth in patents since 2010, and the UK’s share of all European patents is also rising. 540 EPO patent applications were filed by Rolls Royce, a massive increase on its 182 applications the previous year, and Unilever and BAE Systems also showed a commitment to research and innovation, each filing almost 250 patents.
