Tesla Powerpacks shipped to Puerto Rico

Elon Musk has made good on his word to help bring power back to Puerto Rico – sending hundreds of Powerwall battery packs to the island.

After Puerto Rico’s electric grid was destroyed by hurricanes last month Musk promised to assist. Tesla shipped its first set of Powerpacks to island over the weekend.

Each Powerpack has a 210 kWh energy capacity. That is almost 16 times larger than its consumer Powerwall packs which can pack in 13.5 kWh.

While a Powerwall might be useful for individual rooftop solar installations used by small businesses or households the Powerpack can bring larger parts of the grid online.

The shipment comes after Musk spoke to Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello about how Tesla Energy could help rebuild the islands devasted power grid.
