First world sonic tractor beam built from sound

Researchers from Bristol and Sussex University have built a working tractor beam that can lift and move objects with just sound waves. The beam uses high-amplitude sound waves which generate an ‘acoustic hologram’ which enables them to pick up and move small objects. It is thought the technique could be used to transport and assemble delicate objects such as drug capsules with no physical contact necessary.
