Research from ‘Design Economy 2015’ measured the contribution and value of design to the UK economy. It found that the gross value added in 2013 was £71.7bn.
This accounts to 7.2% of gross value added. The government-endorsed report showed that over a four year period from 2009-2013, the design economy increased by 27.9% – nearly 10% more than across the UK economy as a whole. The findings show that the design economy is equivalent to the ninth biggest employer in the UK.
