A survey by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and released on International Woman’s Day has shown that 78% of the British public think engineering is a good career choice for women, and that the majority see it as a prestigious profession which should be taught more in schools. Dr Helen Meese, head of healthcare at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said: “We think it is vital that in addition to learning about volcanoes and photosynthesis, children are also taught about the manufactured world and understand the principles of objects, such as a phone touchscreen or a dialysis machine.”
