US-designed underwater robot could help clean up deep-sea oil spills

Developed by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) uses acoustic signals to locate the thickest part of any potential spill, helping to improve current clean-up operations where aircraft and boats are the source of visual surveillance.
