Launch of Global Apollo Programme to phase out coal

A new research initiative, which is backed by a number of prominent scientists and academics, has been set up with the aim of making renewable energy cheaper than coal within 10 years. The scheme will look to increase renewable energy R&D funding, place a bigger emphasis on electricity storage and create a more efficient transmission of electricity through the introduction of smart grids.
