EU’s ‘Sentinel’ climate and ocean-monitoring satellite launches

Sentinel-3A, the third satellite in the European Copernicus programme, has launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in Russia. The satellite will provide the UK and other European countries with important information about Earth’s oceans, being able to detect changes in the height, temperature and levels of pollution of water in oceans, rivers and lakes. This will help with a variety of projects, including weather forecasting, maritime safety and pollution monitoring.
