WISE, the Campaign for gender balance in science, technology & engineering is celebrating that for the first time ever there are now more than 1 million women working in core STEM roles across the UK.
The campaign organisation is asking everyone to celebrate this significant milestone and inspire more women to become #1ofTheMillion by uploading a photo and story to wisecampaign.org.uk
WISE has long enabled and energised people in business, industry and education to increase the participation, contribution and success of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) but this latest campaign showcase real people working in STEM roles.
The fact that women now make up 24% of the core STEM workforce in the UK is testament to the shift in STEM industries over the last decade. With women taking up signifcantly more roles in everything from semi-conductor engineering to civil engineering.
While there is still work to do the milestone is significant. The number of women in Engineering has almost doubled from just over 25,000 to over 50,000 and there has been a total increase of 350,00 women in core STEM in the last ten years.
You can upload your photo and story now on the WISE website and join the celebrations on Wednesday, June 10th when WISE will be holding a #1ofTheMillion day.
WISE hope that by June they will have built up an interactive photo collage that celebrates the brilliant contributions women are making to STEM today.
In the meantime, we encourage your spread word of the campaign and share the campaign materials to encourage others to join.
