UK-built instrument to help scientists learn more about the surface of Mercury

Developers from the University of Leicester have built an x-ray scanning system called the Mercury Imaging X-ray Spectrometer (MIXS), which will be used on the BepiColombo space mission in 2017. The instrument has been purchased by Airbus Space & Defence, who will be undertaking the BepiColombo mission in order to add to the knowledge of Mars that was gained by the ten year NASA probe, Messenger.
