The UK government’s Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy, Ed Vaizey, has confirmed the development of a new interdisciplinary Research Hub to push forward research on the Internet of Things (IoT). The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has awarded the Hub a grant worth £9.8 million, which will be boosted by partner contributions to approximately £23 million. A consortium of nine universities will work together to explore the most critical issues as part of this research, including: security and privacy; ethics; and trust. In addition, the Hub has drawn more than 47 partners from industry and public sector.
