Queen backs drive to get more British women into engineering industry

Some of Britain’s talented young women in the engineering sector were invited to Buckingham Palace to attend a reception for a prize named after the Queen.

During the Second World War the monarch spent time in the Auxiliary Territorial Service as both a driver and a mechanic. At a time when only 6% of registered UK engineers and technicians are women and just 15% of engineering students in the UK are female, the Queen’s support is greatly welcomed.
