Project to build greener cars wins government funding

A consortium including Jaguar Land Rover and Nissan has received £1.7 million in funding from a government prize, money which will be put towards research into lightweighting technology. This research will take principles employed in Formula 1 car manufacturing and apply them to passenger cars, making them lighter and improving fuel efficiency. Transport minister Andrew Jones, who launched the government competition, said: “This competition continues our £600 million commitment by 2020 to support the uptake of ultra-low emissions vehicles, making journeys cheaper and greener, ensuring the nation is fit for the future.”
