Pedestrian protection system being developed by Bosch

A new pedestrian avoidance system being developed by Bosch at its research and development centre at Renningen could be added to cars by 2018. The new system will use the stereo video camera that already exists to monitor pedestrians and oncoming traffic.

In addition, it will use an on board computer in the car’s boot to plot the likely trajectory of pedestrians. The system will calculate the best action if a collision is thought likely and then automatically either brake or steer to prevent colliding.
