Network Rail urges girls to reject stereotypes and go into engineering

A new scheme will offer schoolgirls work experience at Network Rail, who will hold open evenings to introduce females to the rail industry. Jane Simpson, the Chief Engineer of Network Rail, said that girls should not accept being “pigeon-holed” out of engineering at school. It follows research that suggests girls as young as seven have an “unconscious bias” against the profession – with most having decided against pursuing a career by the age of 14.
