Negative stiffness honeycomb structures developed for vehicles and military gear

Negative stiffness honeycombs are being developed by researchers at the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas, to increase the safety for vehicles and military gear. The structure is based on a honeycomb structure, but designed to endure impact by absorbing energy and could be used for car bumpers, military and athletic hermits. The researchers hope it could be used to protect people from blunt-force injuries.
