International research programme launched to develop humanoid robots

A research programme has been launched by Airbus Group Innovations in collaboration with Japanese and French research teams, which will manufacture humanoid robots to be used in civilian airliner assembly lines. The robots will support humans in performing complex manufacturing tasks, which will require researchers to develop new algorithms to allow high levels of ‘hand-eye coordination’. Airbus Group Innovations’ head Sebastian Remy said of the international collaboration: “We are excited about the opportunity to meld our expertise with theirs on the further development of this key technology for manufacturing.”
