Innovate UK announces £20 million investment in driverless car research

The UK government has announced that it will provide £20 million in funding for research into the development of autonomous navigation systems for vehicles. The UK’s innovation agency, sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, will provide funding for a number of projects to make the UK a leader in driverless vehicle technology. One of the projects, named ‘Atlas’, was secured by a consortium of businesses led by Ordnance Survey, and will explore how to transfer and process the data required to operate autonomous vehicles.
