First gas extracted by Total from gas field west of Shetland

The first gas field west of Shetland has begun production, being operated by French energy company Total. The Laggan-Tomore field, in deep and challenging offshore waters which are nearer to the Atlantic Ocean than the North Sea, will produce the gas equivalent of 90,000 barrels of oil a day. Arnaud Breuillac, Total’s President of Exploration and Production, said that the area had great potential and that Total is “boosting the United Kingdom’s production capacity and Europe’s energy security.”
