Everyday technology could detect an epileptic seizures

An independent game developer in the US has developed a smartwatch app that can detect certain epileptic seizures. The developer came up with the idea to program the watch following his wife’s tonic-clonic seizure, which leaves the sufferer convulsing on the floor. The app is designed to detect movement characteristics of a seizure and then sends texts to chosen family/friends of the wearer to warn them. Whilst devices that detect seizures are not new, this app was developed with one of the cheapest smartwatches on the market and has been made freely available online.
