A prep school in Cambridge has introduced engineering lessons for its pupils aged 7 to 13. The school’s head teacher said he believes engineering is about problem-solving and coming up with ideas – and therefore not that different to maths or science.
Whilst still a fairly rare subject, engineering is becoming increasingly popular. In 2015 there was a 37% rise in GCSE entries for engineering, making it the second largest rise of any subject. The 2015 Engineering UK report, compiled by several education and engineering groups, says more school-age students need to be inspired to study the subject in order to meet the UK’s future demand for engineers.
