Boxfish could inspire improvements in body armour

Engineers have been researching the shell of the small boxfish, hoping to understand its unique properties of strength and flexibility.

Research has shown that the shell is held together by the bonds which fuse together as the fish grows, similar to that of a newborn baby. The discovery has a variety of potential uses, such as to develop a new generation of strong and flexible body armour.
