Astrophysicist wins early-career award at IOP

The annual ‘Very Early Career Female Physicist Award’ (VECFPA) was awarded to Jena Meinecke, a junior research fellow at Oxford University, who recreated a miniature supernovae in the lab.

Meiecke conducts experiments to reproduce the magnetic fields associated with objects such as supernovae on a tiny scale with the aim of determining how small magnetic fields originating in the early universe could have been scaled up to the size that we observe today.

She is currently preparing to apply for NASA’s astronaut programme and to go to the International Space Station.
