3D bar codes developed to fight counterfeits

Developed by Yorkshire engineers, the first 3D bar code can be embedded into products while being manufactured. It enables over 1.7 million configurations, which are almost impossible for the human eye to distinguish from one another. The new technology is said to be a key importance to the pharmaceutical and automotive sectors. Counterfeits products cost huge amounts of money to the economy and the amount of fakes sold each year cost an estimated $1.8 trillion.
