UK-China nuclear deal largest inward investment in UK’s history

The announcement of Chinese investment in the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset was welcomed by the Institution of Chemical Engineers.

The Strategic Investment Agreement was signed in the presence of the Chinese President and the British Prime Minister. The construction and operation of the power station represents the largest inward investment in the UK’s history.

Completion is expected in 2025 and is expected to create 25,000 jobs. Andy Furlong from the IChemE said that the deal “is good news for investors, chemical engineers…energy security and our low carbon future”.
