In a bid to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, the Department for Transport has set aside £7mn worth of funding to upgrade more than 400 UK buses, which will be retrofitted with green technology. The ‘Clean Bus Technology Fund’ is being targeted at pollution hotspots to improve air quality. The aim is to reduce the current output of the 439 buses by 90 per cent and discourage the most polluting vehicles. The long operational life of the city buses means the new, greener technology should help to significantly boost air quality.
