Boring News – ‘The Boring Company’ announces that its first car elevator is almost operational

Exciting news from Elon Musk’s tunnel venture ‘The Boring Company’ as it announces that its first car elevator is almost operational.

Elon Musk, the multi-company CEO of SpaceX fame noted on Twitter that the companies car elevator (which is designed to bring vehicles below ground to the tunnel) should be operational next week.

The announcement means that the company is not just operating out of a hole in the ground and will be able to lower equipment into their test tunnel more quickly – in a series of recent tweets Musk provided an updated look at the progress made at the Hawthorne SpaceX HQ on the Boring Co’s first tunnel.

These show a newly installed steel structure which will form the base of the elevator.

Boring – The Concept Explained

The Boring Company’s concept is very simple – the principle idea is that surface access points will allow cars to drive on to elevator platforms from regular roads.

These lifts will allow traffic to descend into a larger tunnel network. It is here that car will join the flow of traffic aboard a sled.

These will be fully automated and ferrying traffic closely together, allowing for fast transport. Eventually the network of tunnels would stack, crisscross and overlap each other. This would allow for maximum efficiency across the whole network.
