Key points

  • Tomorrow's Engineers Week runs from 9 to 13 November 2026.
  • Last year a record 60,000 young people took part through school activities.
  • Schools register for free, so ask a teacher to sign up.
  • You can join in on your own with virtual work experience, competitions and clubs.
  • For one week in November, engineering gets a lot louder. Tomorrow’s Engineers Week runs from 9 to 13 November 2026[1], and thousands of students across the UK take part every year[2]. Last year a record 60,000 young people joined in through school activities alone[3].

It is run by EngineeringUK, and this year’s theme is Shape our future[4]. Think of it as a week when engineers come to you.

    What happens in school

The week is built around classroom activities, assemblies and Q&A sessions with real engineers[5]. The programmes are free for schools to register[6]. Schools do the registering, so the person to ask is a teacher, such as your form tutor, head of year or careers lead. Our page for Tomorrow’s Engineers Week 2026 has the dates and the official link to share with them.

Five things to do that week

    1. Try a virtual work experience programme. Our guide to virtual engineering work experience lists free online programmes that count. For a taste of a specific employer, look at the Heathrow Engineering or JCB programmes on Springpod.
    2. Read up on a competition. The Big Bang Competition is a good place to see what entering involves before you commit to anything.
    3. Put the next big event in your diary. The Big Bang Fair 2027 takes place at the NEC Birmingham, and it is worth knowing about early.
    4. Pick a club or a project. Our guide to the best extracurricular activities for aspiring engineers has ideas you can start without waiting for anyone’s permission.
    5. Plan your own work experience. Read how to get engineering work experience in Year 10 and Year 12, then check our engineering key dates so you know which deadlines are coming up.

If your school is not taking part

You do not need a school to get started. Everything in the list above works on your own, and it makes a good conversation starter for a teacher. If you have found something you like, show them. It might be the nudge that gets your school registered next year.
