Engineering YouTube channel
Expert teardowns of unusual and expensive electronics, from military lasers to car headlights. Suits curious students who want to see inside real engineered products.

mikeselectricstuff is the video side of Mike Harrison’s website, electricstuff.co.uk. He is an electronics engineer who designs custom electronics for large-scale lighting and art installations.
The channel is best known for teardowns. He takes apart unusual, specialist or very expensive equipment and explains how each part works. Recent videos include electric vehicle adapters, a portable DNA sequencer, an acoustic imaging camera and test equipment. The style is calm, expert and detailed, with plenty of close-up shots of circuit boards. He points out clever design touches as well as corners that have been cut. He often compares an expensive product with a cheap copy, which makes the differences in engineering easy to see.
Some highlights include:
He takes apart a laser unit from a Tornado jet fighter and explains how it was built and what it did.

A comparison of laser headlights from a BMW car with a much cheaper version, showing how each one works.

He opens up a cheap handheld arc welder to check how well it is designed and whether it is safe.

The channel has around 135,000 subscribers.
Teardowns are one of the best ways to learn how real products are engineered. This channel is a good way into electronic engineering, showing design choices, safety features and manufacturing shortcuts. It connects to careers in electronic design, product safety, lighting and reverse engineering.
