This is Engineering is a campaign to bring engineering to life for young people. First launched in 2018, it is led by the Royal Academy of Engineering in partnership with EngineeringUK and major engineering organisations. Its YouTube channel tells the stories of real, young engineers who turned their passions into fulfilling careers, to inspire more young people, whatever their background, to consider engineering.

Most videos are short portraits of 30 to 90 seconds, each giving the engineer a title such as Robotics Trailblazer or Net Zero Navigator. Several are also published in Welsh.

Some highlights include:

Eneni, a freelance robotics engineer who creates custom products, from retina scan door locks to drones that deliver to hard to reach places.

This is Engineering has over 2,600 subscribers, and its most watched film has more than 6.7 million views.

The films are short enough for a lesson starter or tutor time. Together they show how wide the range of engineering jobs is, and that an apprenticeship is a real route in.
