The Efficient Engineer
Clear animated explanations of core mechanical and civil engineering topics such as stress, beams and fluids. Ideal for A level students and engineering undergraduates.
Engineering YouTube channel
Mechanical engineering projects and clear explanations of motors, mechanisms and machines. A strong fit for students who like building things that move.

Jeremy Fielding makes engineering project videos with a simple aim: to draw people into engineering, inspire them with ideas and then teach them how to do it. He is especially interested in mechanical design, but his projects mix several disciplines.
The videos combine builds and explanations. Topics include electric motors, mechanisms, welding, machining and electronics. He explains how clever devices work, tests ideas properly and debunks myths, such as so called free energy generators. A recent series follows him engineering a camera system to film bees. He often explains the maths and design choices behind a build, not just the finished result.
Some highlights include:
An explanation of the mecanum wheel, an unusual design that lets vehicles move sideways.

A beginner’s guide to choosing and using electric motors in projects.

A test of what happens when an alternator is added to an electric car, and why it cannot give free range.

The channel has over 1.2 million subscribers.
This is one of the best channels for seeing mechanical engineering as a creative job. It connects to mechanical, electrical and mechatronic engineering, and to robotics. The debunking videos are also a good lesson in using physics, especially energy conservation, to judge whether a claim makes sense. It suits anyone who enjoys making things in a workshop or at home.
