On Wednesday, George Freeman, the Life Sciences Minister, announced a new investment worth £10 million for five new UK-wide research centres.

The centres, which are funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, will explore how mathematics and statistics can assist clinicians in tackling serious health challenges including heart disease and cancer.

New tools aimed at treating chronic diseases and new systems to make clinical imaging more accurate will be developed by researchers at the centres which will be based at universities.
