Rhinos in South Africa will be fitted with tiny spy cameras and tracking collars by conservationists, to reduce the threat of poaching. The new technology means rhinos can be tracked by scientists 24/7, and a heart rate monitor will alert them if they come under attack from poachers. It is hoped the camera in the horn can then be used to identify the culprits. It will be trialed in South Africa for the next six months, and if successful, it could be expanded to other endangered animals, like tigers and elephants.
