Undecided with Matt Ferrell

Undecided is presented by Matt Ferrell, a UI and UX designer by trade. He set up the channel to explore how sustainable and smart technologies affect everyday life, and to give the context behind the headlines.

Most videos focus on energy: solar panels, home and grid batteries, nuclear power, heat pumps and electric vehicles. Each one takes a new technology or claim, explains how it works and looks at whether it stacks up. He often weighs up cost, efficiency and practical problems, not just the promise, and draws on interviews and published research.

Some highlights include:

An explainer on thorium as a nuclear fuel, how it differs from uranium and why interest in it is growing.

A look at sand batteries, which store heat in sand, and how they could be used for home and district heating.

How magnetic cooling works and why it could offer an alternative to conventional fridges and air conditioning.

The channel has over 1.8 million subscribers.

The energy transition is one of the biggest sources of engineering jobs in the UK, from offshore wind and grid storage to nuclear and building services. This channel is a good way into energy engineering, electrical engineering and materials science. It also models a healthy habit for any engineer: asking what a new technology really costs and where it might fall short.
