Tom Stanton is a maker and engineer from England. He studied aerospace engineering at university and, by his own account, was sidetracked by the possibilities of 3D printing. His channel documents the machines he designs and builds in his workshop.

Each video follows one project from idea to test. Recent builds include flywheel batteries, a Stirling engine bike, a wind-up plane powered by a supercapacitor and several trebuchets. He explains the physics behind each design, shows the CAD models and 3D printed parts, and is open about what fails and why. Many projects go through several versions before they work.

Some highlights include:

A flywheel battery that stores energy in a spinning mass, with the design and testing explained along the way.

This is the engineering design process on screen: set a goal, build a prototype, test it, measure it and improve it. It connects to mechanical and aerospace engineering, energy storage and product design. It also shows how far a 3D printer and some careful maths can take a project, which makes it a useful nudge for anyone thinking about an engineering degree or apprenticeship.
