LiveOverflow

LiveOverflow is a cyber security channel. Its creator describes himself as a wannabe hacker who makes videos about IT security and takes part in hacking competitions, known as capture the flag events.

The videos walk through how vulnerabilities in software are discovered, how bug bounty programmes reward people who report them responsibly, and how systems can be protected. Topics range from web security and reverse engineering to attacks on AI language models. The style is calm and detailed, with lots of screen recordings of real code. Some videos assume a little programming knowledge.

Some highlights include:

The story of how a team of security researchers found a flaw in Google’s systems and reported it through a bug bounty programme.

A guide to teaching yourself reverse engineering, the skill of working out how a program works from the compiled code.

An explanation of prompt injection, a way of tricking AI language models into ignoring their instructions, and why it is hard to defend against.

The channel has around 946,000 subscribers.

LiveOverflow is a good way into cyber security, one of the fastest growing areas of software and computer engineering. It shows that security work is careful, legal and methodical, and that finding a flaw is only useful if it is reported properly. Viewers interested in computer science degrees, security apprenticeships or competitions such as capture the flag will find plenty here.
