This channel is run by Jeff Hanson, a lecturer at Texas Tech University in the United States. He worked in industry as an engineer before teaching, and has written a book to accompany his statics videos.

The videos are lessons on the core subjects of a first or second year engineering degree. They cover statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials and thermodynamics, worked through problem by problem. He set out to make enough videos that a student could pass the course from the series alone. There is also a review playlist for an American professional engineering exam. Each lesson is short and focused on one idea, so the series works well for revision or catching up.

Some highlights include:

A lesson on the flexure formula, showing how bending creates stress in a beam.

A lesson on strain transformation using Mohr’s circle, a key tool for analysing materials under load.

A short lesson on how not to mix up polar and area moments of inertia.

The channel has over 390,000 subscribers.

Statics and mechanics of materials are the foundation of mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering. Almost every engineering student meets them in their first year. Watching a few lessons gives an honest preview of what that study involves, and the maths needed. Students already on a degree will also find it useful for revision.
