Engineering YouTube channel
The official channel of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, with careers advice, factory tours and the latest mechanical engineering in action. Useful for anyone weighing up mechanical engineering.

This is the official channel of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, also known as IMechE. The institution was founded in 1847 in Birmingham by George Stephenson, the “Father of Railways”, and today supports around 115,000 members. The channel sets out to show the latest mechanical engineering technology in action, keep viewers up to date with industry news and offer career and learning advice.
Videos cover a wide range of sectors: aerospace, automotive, biomedical engineering, construction and building services, manufacturing, power and energy, process and railway. Alongside short films there are webinars, lectures and coverage of the institution’s student challenges.
Some highlights include:
An animated introduction to what a mechanical engineer is, showing how interests in cars, sport, aeroplanes or energy can lead to a career.

A tour of the factory that makes the Brompton folding bicycle, first designed in 1975 by a Cambridge University engineering student.

An animation of SeaGen, a 1.2 megawatt tidal energy converter installed in Strangford Lough, which has since been decommissioned.

IMechE has over 30,000 subscribers.
The careers videos are a straightforward guide to what mechanical engineers do. The factory tours and project films show the same ideas from A level physics and design and technology at work in real products.
