Flipping Physics is made by Jon Thomas-Palmer, known as Mr P, a high school physics teacher in the United States who studied mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan. He started the channel in 2013 to support a flipped classroom, where students watch lessons at home and solve problems in class.

The videos are light-hearted but rigorous. Mr P teaches three students, Billy, Bobby and Bo, all played by himself. Lessons cover kinematics, forces, energy, momentum, fluids, electric fields and capacitors. Many are built around the American AP Physics exams, which cover much of the same ground as A level physics, and there are full unit reviews and live quizzes.

Some highlights include:

A full review of kinematics, covering displacement, velocity, acceleration and motion graphs with worked examples.

Top Engineering Videos: Flipping Physics

A review of Newton’s laws and forces, including free body diagrams and common exam questions.

Top Engineering Videos: Flipping Physics

A review of work, energy and power, showing how energy methods make tricky problems simpler.

The channel has over 220,000 subscribers.

Physics is the other subject most engineering degrees ask for. Mechanics, energy and electricity are exactly the topics first year engineering builds on. The teacher’s own engineering background shows in how he links ideas to real problems. It suits students preparing for A level physics or wanting a solid base before an engineering course.
